I wouldn't mind a 1500 series diesel(I say 1500 I just mean any 1/4 ton, Ford, Toyoda, Nissan), maybe something bigger then a 4 cylinder..maybe at least a 6 turbo or something...

To bad the engine isn't manufactured here in the USA. :(

That the 2.8 and 3.8L currently are not made in the USA, no. I'm not saying that they are ever going to be, but there is some manufacturing space set up and available in the states though. Not sure if the plan is to produce this engine particular version of the engine here or not.

At one time there was talks of a Ram 1500 with a 5.0L in it, but then Chrysler went bust and I don't think its moved very far since then.

I have been saying that for years, only for Ford, build a 4 cyl. turbo diesel, slap it in the Ranger/Explorer sport trac, and you couldn't keep them on the sale's lot, I would buy one in a second..

Nissan is currently developing a next generation Titan replacement - due out within a couple of years. This would be a feather in their cap if they could launch it with this engine and offer up some real fuel economy improvement.

It would be interesting. American buyers have traditionally stayed away from diesels in droves... except for maybe HD truck varieties.

I still have no intentions of ever buying anything with a diesel in it myself.

From what I have read, the new Titan is due out in 2013/2014 which is the target release for this engine too. Cummins was supposedly developing a diesel for light duty Rams, but that project appears to have fallen through. Hopefully Nissan will push this through and will start a trend in the light duty pickup market. Heck, I would sure consider a Titan if it could get mid to upper 20's mpg with a REASONABLY PRICED small diesel.

I like diesels myself and would consider buying one in a car or light duty truck.

But you saw that in the 80's GM diesel cars. People would put summer fuel in it (it's cheaper) but it'd get cold and gel up. Then you're stuck on the side of the road, cussing your stupid diesel engine. And people aren't prepared to pay the extra maintenance / repair bills when/if they happen.

My cousin bought a 1988 Delta 88 with a 350 diesel off a kid in high school for $100. They guy ran it out of fuel and couldn't get it started. "BLEW the engine!" My cousin bled the fuel lines and it ran fine!

I wish america would get more on board with diesels. They are more efficient and offer more bio-fuel resources. I small v6 or big I4 would be plenty for a half ton truck. they would get great mileage and have the ability to tow.
