I'm going to reply to your post here, Doc, since it has to do with the vehicle in this thread.

I guess I missed something.

What’s up with the transmission?

The torque convertor is acting up. It's a known issue on the 8 speed autos and affects the Camaros, Corvettes, some Cadillac models, and the Silverados / Sierras that use the A8.

Cruising along on flat ground or especially on a slight hill, trying to maintain speed but not gain speed, the torque convertor "pulses" as it locks-up and unlocks. It feels like running over rumble strips every 3-5 seconds or so.

That can get very freakin' annoying, especially on a road trip. I actually cut the NM/AZ/UT trip a day or two short, just so I could get back home and get out of the car with that "shuddering" (that's what they call it on the Vette and Camaro forums) transmission.

I drove nearly 800 miles that last day, just to get back home and not have to deal with that transmission another day.

I've had it in the shop once. Step one of the TSB is to do a triple flush on the transmission. Step two, after giving it back to the customer, claiming it's fixed, having them drive it at least 200 miles, and them still complaining about the issue, is to replace the torque convertor and update the transmission tune.

The "fix" I have heard on the forums is to adjust the tune so that the TC engages at 100% when it is supposed to be engaged. Of course, tuning the transmission voids the warranty and GM's "updated" tune does NOT have 100% engagement of the TC. :fume:

The ZL1 with the 10 speed is not effected by this. Of course, neither is the manual.

Gotcha! I have heard about this issue with the 8 speed. I actually experienced it with the 2016 Yukon Denali XL I test drove. I felt it every now and then. Thought it was my driving. Then talked to Justin he said that’s an issue, but he could fix it. Or at least improve it.

That was one of the things that turned me off from them.

Hope they get it worked out.

Had I known this was an issue, I would've either held out for a stick or bought something else entirely.

The service guy called while I was on my way home. I dropped the car off yesterday at lunch. It'll be "at least Monday or Tuesday" before they can look at it. So, I waited a week to get a loaner. It'll be nearly another week before they even look at it... And then probably a round of "we can't reproduce it," which is liable to bounce it out of line...

That sucks! I had no idea it gets that bad. In the YD I drove it was an occasional jerk.

Gotta love the service quality of the domestic dealers. I miss dealing with Park Place.

Maybe they'll change my overall attitude by the time this is over. But, right now, I'm kicking myself for not buying something from Autobahn. :dunno:

I’ll keep my fingers crossed, but won’t hold my breath. Lol

I have never dealt with autobahn. I have dealt with Park Place and Sewell multiple times and cannot say anything but praise.

Thanks!

Autobahn always treated me well with the Z4. I never had to take it back for an issue. They even fixed things that were covered without me having to prompt them. Hell, they discovered an oil leak and replaced the valve cover gasket without me even knowing there was an oil leak.

A friend of mine just had his converter changed on his 2015 Sierra. He said it was doing exactly what you described.
