So what's the major differences in the trim packages? I would LOVE leather seats but if I got cloth seats I'd put seat covers on them so either way I'm not worried about the seats.

I'm a Chevy guy, so I don't know the details. But the FX4 is suspension package (like Z71) and Lariat is luxury package. All the fancy things. I think that's where your leather comes in. Unless you can get an XLT with leather seats

If you want leather I am thinking you can only get that with a Lariat or FX4 package. (I could be wrong). FX4 is more of an offroad/tow package. Lariat is the luxury version.

I believe both come with center console shifter and leather (But I beleive you can get a FX4 with cloth). I could be wrong, but I think most come with Power Sliding Rear window and Moon Roof as well.

The FX4 will come with a skid plate up front, and I think I remember hearing it will sit just a tad bit higher than a normal 4x4.

I'm sure there is more.. Look at the Truck Darren just bought, it's a Lariat with black leather interior and all the upgraded options inside. > Bought a new truck, traded in '04. <

Just saw this on another site..

Mechanical- FX4's have standard 4wd, standard LS rear axle, standard skid plates and standard shift on the fly 4x4 system.

Interior- FX4's get standard black interior with carbon fiber trim, Lariats get a chioce of black or tan interior with woodgrain trim and standard leather seats and standard automatic climate control and message center.

Exterior- FX4's got the same H-bar grill as the XL and STX. FX4's got textured black plastic fender flares. Lariats got the same honeycomb grill as the XLT, except it was painted beige and had a chrome surround, they also got smooth painted fender flares and standard heated/signal mirrors.

Colors- FX4's were limited to six colors, bright red, white, true blue/dark blue pearl, black, silver, dark shadow gray. Lariats could be had in any color that was offered except silver and dark gray.

Suspension- FX4's have the same suspension as any other 4x4 150, they just get more off-road oriented shocks. Lariats get the same setup as any 2wd 150 or 4x4 150 does.

FX4's could be had in a regular cab w/6.5 bed and could be had w/ a flareside bed. Lariats cannot.

Sounds like FX4 is more along my lines of what I want. I'm going to be using it for everything and the 4x4 is the biggest thing for me.

A co-worker used to drive a 2006 FX4. It wasn't a bad truck (for a Ford )

I love my FX4 I have messed around in Lariats and KR. I honestly would not settle for anything less. Most of the time the price difference isn't that big of a difference

Its got cloth seats (I absolutely hate leather seats), power driver's seat, 6 seats with a fold down center console armrest, column shift (the console shifter looks like a big dildo and trucks shouldnt have console shifted auto's anyway), automatic headlights, electronic (switch) 4wd, manual hvac and power windows and locks.

Like he said it going to be basically all about personal preference. I didn't think I wanted leather either, but I loved it once I got it.

You'll just have to go drive a couple and see what you like.

In all seriousness, it is just all personal preference. If you like leather- Lariat/FX4 if you just want plan jane- XLT

I wanted a luxury package of some sort, since I wanted a 4x4 I figured why not get a FX4. I love the FX4, just wish they did the FX4 Luxury package back in 04'

I'm wanting Matt or Darren or chime in and give their opinions. If it doesn't have leather, I'll slap some camo covers on em. The only interior color I don't want is tan since this won't be a show truck I won't be doing many mods.
