Nice man, I am wanting a hand held one that will pick up 800 megahertz, since thats what all the police and fire are going to around me.

Back in high school i knew a kid that had his Marine band in his truck set up to pick up the police. it worked great for knowing when to dip out at a party the only down fall to the thign was we could talk back and that was really startin to ask for trouble haha.

Usually those are "trunked" systems (either digital or analog) and I don't know of any CB that would also include a scanner like that. And mobile use of a scanner in a vehicle requires a permit in most states.

Leo, I have the same two radios, the 19 in my GMC and the 75WX in the g/f's Dakota, and had a 1st Class FCC RT&T license for a lot of years, so I'm kind of uniquely qualified to give you opinions on both. :D

The 75 is a sweet little radio, and I love the weather channels on it (wish the 19 had them), but the sound quality and volume isn't that good. True, you can hook up an external speaker, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having a compact unit like that. Also, unlike the 19, you're stuck with the stock mic on it, since it's all integrated. Still, it's a good unit if all you want is a minimal CB capability.

The controls on the 75 are pretty straightforward, but it would be nice to have the RF Gain control that the 19 does. You'll probably miss that most of all.

The 19, on the other hand, is also a pretty sweet little unit, and with the addition of a power mic (I use an Astetic Road Devil mic) and a little tweaking can put out a very good signal, with excellent range from a good antenna setup.

I think you'll like the 75, at first, but eventually want to switch back to the 19, or upgrade to a 29 WX NW ST to get the benefit of the weather channels in a better unit.

I've been seriously thinking of adding a PA system to the CB I now have and that is one draw back I notice bout the all one handheld. So I think I'll be keep the old one also, I'll just relocate it to the ash tray.

You could add the PA system, but you might be disappointed. The PA amp in most CB's is only 10 watts (typical police PA unit is 100-200 watts) so it won't be very loud.

Add another crystal to it and put a switch on the back to change to the new crystal when needed. :dunno:

CB talk isn't what it use to be back in the 80's that is for sure. :(

Anything goes and they don't care how they talk, not that kids are on the CB like back then but still it is like a bunch of kids on there some times and these are adults.

When I drove across country from here in NC to Tx it was fun to have. I even remember my call sign.
