Check out Budget. Their equipment is newer and in better shape than Uhaul. When we moved to Dallas about 9 years ago, we went with the largest Budget truck (26') and a car trailer for my wife's car. I didn't have any complaints. At the time, Budget was less expensive compared to Uhaul also.

I have towed two vehicles over 350 miles by using a Uhaul car trailer. Both times I used my Suburban and it didn't break a sweat. One was my 87 Cutlass, the other was my 97 Blazer. Being that those are both RWD vehicles, I felt much safer using the trailer instead of the dolly. :dunno:

U-Haul car trailers suck. They are supposed to be idiot prrof but that makes them more dangerous. I found that I could not center the load on the trailer. You gotta use there little tie downs and it puts all the weight on the tongue instead of the trailer like its supposed to be. I would tow a front wheel drive car with a dolly over one of those POS trailers.

Well, we ended up with a 26' truck and a car trailer (Impala weighed too much for a dolly). Truck is loaded, pickup is almost loaded, and I am beat. It is going to be a looooong day tomorrow...

I fully agree with you on most of the weight being on the tongue. I didn't like that part, but my Suburban handled it just fine. It was squatting at first, but after I drove about a mile, the load leveling shocks on my truck did their job and had the back perfectly level again.
And when I went to pick up the trailers both times, the Uhaul places had their trailers separated. They had the older beat to hell trailers in one section, and the nicer newer ones in another area. I asked him why and he admitted that they save the nicer one for one way rentals (people traveling with them) and the raggedy ones for in town rentals since they obviously aren't highway worthy. That sucks if you are renting and returning in the same place because they will give you a POS trailer.

I don't think there is anything wrong with those Uhaul car trailers at all. I towed with a half ton through some nasty roads in AK with one.

I never really noticed the car back there. The truck pulled pretty decent for what it was and how much it had. It did like 3rd gear on the hills, but it would maintain 65 on almost all of them. I did get stuck behind a semi for a bit that missed a gear on a hill...that sucked.

sweet, my dad made the mistake of only getting a 20'er when he moved to Florida, then we had to drive to u-haul and get a trailer to finish loading the house, and then drove to Florida with that, it was ok, but we did not realize the truck did not have AC until we got into the Carolina's, and we were not going to unload and reload the truck to get ac...
