Need some input on swapping my 318 from a 2bbl to a 4.

I found a 3/4 Dodge with a 360 in a local salvage yard. I am pretty sure it is mid 80s. It has a cast iron intake with a 4bbl Quadrajet sitting on it. The owner said I can have the carb and intake for $50. Dos this sound like a good move?

Seriously though... What reasons are those other folks giving you for staying with the stock carb?

Go for it, I don't think that you will find a better deal.

If your only goal was to stick a 4bbl on, yeah, it can work, but it's not going to do much for your performance, and may even lower performance. It is, after all, still a stock intake, and that q-jet is probably a little too much carb for your application.

That is what I was thinking. Although, all I want if better mileage and the ability to pull my loaded trailer around and uphills without drama.

Small bore engine does not need a 4bbl for what I plan to do with the truck.

"Need" is a funny word... Yeah, it doesn't need a 4bbl, and more horsepower and more torque. Hell, it doesn't need anything more than stock. For that matter, it doesn't need a V8 either. A 225 slant 6 would power the truck just as well, and would let you accomplish all the chores you needed to do.

But it won't be all that much fun to drive.

Instead of looking at what the truck needs to make it work, look at what the driver needs in the truck to make it fun.

Pop the 318 out then and drop in a 4BT or 6BT instead then. You'll get decent fuel mileage and it'll pull a trailer all day long like nobody's business.

Funny you should mention a 4BT. That is another subject matter I am saving for later.

I am so use to this truck having the 2bbl I just cannot imagine it doing anything more. I see your point about the need issue. If that was the case none of my truck would ever be anything other than stock.
