Hmmm.... or maybe I'm really overestimating what I need for towing...

I do think you're over estimating that what you need. Especially for the frequency. That being said there is nothing wrong with having more than you need.

Really the only down fall of the 2500 is going to be mileage, ride, and you lose some of luxuries of the Denali.

I feel like both will tow what you want. I do the think 6.0 will tow potentially better than the 6.2 because of where the powerband is and the transmission.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
How much "grocery hauling" is this thing going to do? Is it your DD? You said 12k per year, so that's not a whole lot, I guess.

I wouldn't want to drive a 3/4 ton every day just because I'd tow with it 2 or 3 times per year. :dunno:

Ride can't be worse than my lifted commander :dunno:

Lol in all seriousness it'll get me back and forth to work everyday (about 22 mile round trip). The minivan is the main kid hauler. I have to baby the jeep to get 12mpg so mileage won't hurt me too much... I'd probably get better mileage with the YDXL

Yes, the 80 vs 90 is really in a couple areas. They both have the same gear ratios in transmission. The 90 is just stronger. It's a little bigger transmission(longer). The 2500 will have 3.73/4.10 from the factory which will be to your advantage assuming you're planning on bigger tires.

Realistic mileage is going to be 11-13 combined. With my truck (1500 6.0 Magnacharger 3.73 and 4L80 swap) I average 9.5-11 daily.

I'm getting the sense that I can't really go wrong with either, and that I have a handle of the pros/cons of each. In which case, it probably comes down to which vehicle I find first in the condition I want and at a price I can afford....

Appreciate the help everyone! Glad to see there still some forum activity. Hopefully I'll be able to post some new (to me) vehicle pics & mods in the near future!

And keep the opinions/ideas rolling. Hell, I'd even appreciate if you guys can keep an eye out in your local markets for a truck I might want to buy.

Daily driving a modern 2500 is nothing. I laugh whenever I read the perils of driving a 2500 daily, and how uncomfortable they are, blah blah blah.

Anyhow, having owned, and towed with just about every line of GM truck since the 80s, I would definitely search for a 2500, simply for the stability of the platform while towing travel trailers. The 1500s do great, there is just a little less stress with a newer 2500.

The mileage argument is also moot.

When you have all your babies in there, momma, the gear and groceries I KNOW you are taking, plus fresh water in the TT, the stability will be unmatched. The brakes are a huge plus. I have reverted back to 1500s, and strapped all the air bags, etc it takes to make things better, and you can absolutely do it without issue. I only bring this all up because you are at the point where you have the choice, and you will not regret the 2500 when you get her loaded down.

Just my opinion from many miles of towing through some gnarly mountains. :D

Best of luck, brother!
