Still trying to get used to this pushbutton start. You have to put your foot on the brake when you press the button to start the engine. I keep forgetting that. :uhoh:
But at least the message center on the dash reminds you to press the brake.

Scotty, good to hear no major injuries. Sucks that the car is totaled, a new car payment sucks but life happens. Slick ride for sure.

Insurance company wants $1700 to buy the car back. Should I do it? :dunno:
I feel that price is kinda high though. But there is no frame damage, its all bolt on parts that are damaged. I can fix most if not all of it myself. If this was just a used car that we have only had for a year or two I wouldn't even want it back. But we bought this car brand new and I have taken care of it since day one. I always ran synthetic oil in it and fixed any problems as soon as they arose. Mechanically, the car is perfectly sound. I'm confident that it will be a great running car once the body damage is fixed.

The car has 130k miles on it. I replaced the valve cover gasket at 120k miles and this is how clean the inside of the engine was.

I would offer them $1000 cash and then go from there.

Roll the new Altima and invest that $1700 in something that will help pay for college like a nice 529. What seems like an easy fix could end up costing you way more time and money than it's worth just to have a 130K+ mile used car with a branded title.

I don't think I would mess with buying the old car back. Even if you got it for a grand and dropped another grand (very conservative) into fixing it up, it wouldn't be worth that much in the end and you would be driving a car that had been wrecked. It seems like they always have problems of some sort after a wreck like that one, even when professionally repaired.
