Mazda Kills the Rotary Engine

Maybe it would be easier to see Mazda investing in the development of those microturbines than updating the Wankel system...

I`m actually quite surprised the Emissions laws didn`t get these puppies sooner....

They are designed to burn oil. In fact it is injected into the combustion chambers. They make monster power for their tiny displacement, but emissions are getting more and more difficult to conform to stricter standards.

I have seen some RX-7 owners blending the 2-stroke oil directly into the gasoline.

The rotary just wasn't ever going to be an efficient engine with that long of a combustion facet.

I still love them though ... a good PP or BP job on a 12A or 13B sounds sick.

I had a 88 RX7 I tell you the faster one would go to me the better the engine felt. My son has one with the engine built for racing I tell you it can move. To me if Mazda would have left the RX a two door maybe it would have sold better.
