You could easily cut the rear legs off and move them forward... leaving the rack the length it is. I'd want some sort of diagonal brackets for the legs, but it's an easy fix.

I'd just cut them off and use a couple of telephone poles as legs instead. That way there's no welding to do.

My method uses less duct tape.

2x2's..........for the front and rear legs both. That way, they will still fit in the stake pockets and all will be well. Then load it with 250 2x12x16's hanging over the cab and slam on the brakes.

I not legal here in Va longs I got flags and whatever I'm carrying secured to the rack. I was hauling a 16ft wood walk board that rotted out on it yesterday. On the way home had state trooper 3 cars behind me and state trooper turned off while I kept going.

I don't understand this
