I've been looking at a John Deere model similar to that. From what I've learned from buying offroad or ATV vehicles is to search craigslist for the best deal, within 100-150 miles. Then try to get somewhat closer to price match.

My 2013 Polaris 500 was priced at $6200-6500 out the door. If I road out 100 miles to a bigger dealer they were running a special for $4800. The local place matched that price and we got them for $5300ea out the door.

Hope that helps.

I don't know much about them. They look somewhat similar to the Polaris Rzr but more versatile.

This is what I have my eye on:

Meh, you need the new 1000 XP!

Around here, there's more creek bottom and rough trail riding rather than open land, high-speed stuff. The Teryx has a slightly narrower track which helps on the trails and also seats four so we can take friends along, etc.

I was tempted by the RZR as well as the Can-Am Commander 1000.

What about the 4 seater RZR? My buddy has two RZR 800's and they wheel just as good as any of his 4 wheelers. I have been fairly impressed with the RZR.

The wheelbase is nearly 20" longer than the Teryx and on tight trails and lots of high-center opportunities, that's a lot.

I saw that..... to me it tells me that the polaris is better planted. The wheels are farther out to keep you from tipping over. Both machines over-all length are similar so I would want the wheels farther apart than closer together, front to back wise.

If I were jumping and the like, I'd agree with you but I'm going to be in tight creek bottoms and on steep, rutted inclines/declines where the likelihood of bottoming out is increased with a longer wheelbase, especially 20 extra inches. There are a few creature comforts like latching doors that are nice as well that the RZR doesn't offer. A longer wheel base also makes tight corners tougher, something that will be encountered often in the woods. I was considering a Ranger Crew but I had the same concerns with it.

The RZR is nice but it's built more for high-speed racing than trail riding.

Yeah, I suppose. The RZR does have better ground clearance, better suspension travel, more power and is almost 400lbs lighter than the Kawi. Just buy both and see which is better. :D2

Weight

1,616 Teryx Curb Weight
1,282 RZR Dry weight

That's actually only 334 pounds but even then, it's dry versus curb so the number is actually closer to 200 than 400.

***

Ground Clearance

Teryx4: 10.8"
RZR 4: 11.6"

Yes, that's more, but meh.

***

Power
(From UTV Off-Road)
"With a CARB-certified horsepower rating of 52.3 horsepower, the Teryx is on par with the RZR 4 in power, but a few hundred pounds heavier — at 1,620+ pounds, the T4 is a heavyweight, on par with the utility-oriented 6-seat Ranger Crew. Where the weight comes from is rigidity and strength. There is zero chassis flex on the Teryx4, which can’t be said for the RZR models. The roll cage is beefy, the frame is built like a tank, and the chassis is reinforced — it all adds up to a product that will take a beating and last a long time."

***

Suspension Travel

Can't argue that one but I don't need the same travel as someone jumping dunes.

***

One final significant thing, IMO, is the auto versus selectable 4WD. I want 4WD when I want it, not when the RZR thinks I might need it.

***

In any case, you buy yours, I'll buy mine, and then we'll go have a good time together. I'll even pull you out of places you get stuck.
Lots of folks do complain about the Polaris quality, BTW.

My pops has a Polaris 500 and has had nothing but issues with it since he got it. Could be due to its usage being very low, not sure.

And as far as plowing goes, more weight is not a bad thing...
