Is there any saving this seat pan?

I had planned to send this seat off to get recovered. But I noticed some rust along the edge so I took it apart and found this. This thing is in really bad shape but I do not have a new seat pan in the budget. Is there any saving this one? Any ideas on a cheap yet sturdy fix?

Oh, this is off my 84 Honda 110.

That sucker looks like it's toast to me. You could hit it with an 80 grit wheel and knock off the big rust... then a layer of fiberglass cloth and resin on both sides. Might prolong its life for another year or two.

Like Jim said,looks bad.No matter how you try to prolong it's life it's gonna fail you and prolly at the worst time

I feel the same way. I was hoping for a hail marry shot. I like the fiberglass idea though. I wonder if I use a rust remover if there will be enough left to used as a mold.

Hard to say, but I have seen some pretty rusty non replaceable parts done that way over the years and they held up. The key is to form a thin shell out of the fiberglass for strength and to slow the rust

Fiberglass or those epoxy resins are a good option to patching rusty sheetmetal. but I'd consider to make an entirely new seat pan out of fiberglass using this old one as a mold.

I am going to oke around for a good used one. But I think I might be better off fiberglassing it.

Sandblast the entire thing until its bare metal with no rust. Even if that means it leaves holes. Then paint the whole thing with POR-15. That will form a hard protective coating to prevent any further rusting. Then go on top of the POR-15 with the fiberglass like Jim said. You will have to reinforce the areas with holes and the weakened areas with a few layers of fiberglass mesh.
