My '02 Silverado with a 4L60E tans has aprox 205,000 miles on it. I got it at around 140,000 (ish) miles 3 1/2 years ago. Prior to me buying it it was rebuilt ( I was given the receipt for proof). Around a year after getting it I had the fluid and filter serviced by a reputable transmission shop.

6 or 7 weeks ago we replaced the rear main seal. Like fWONkIN' IDIOTS we didn't re secure the coolant lines and one got pinched by the pitman arm..:fume::fume::fume:

Noticed it a few weeks later. Cut out the section and replaced it with what was "supposed to be" trans hose. Coming home this morning from work I had the truck locked in cruise. ALL OF A SUDDEN my RPMs went bizerk. :wtf?: I disengaged cruise to realize I couldn't go above 2nd gear or it would rev.

I limped it home in with the gear shift in 2nd for aprox 7-10 miles doing about 40 ish. Pulled in the driveway popped the hood to see trans fluid spewing everywhere.

Got up this morning to confirm what it looked like it was coming from THE HOSE THAT BURST!:fume:

Replaced it with TRANSMISSION HOSE (stamped on it) put 1 1/2 gallons of trans fluid in and it still won't get past 2nd.

Unplugged the battery (thinking there might be a low fluid safety feature) re connected and same thing. Won't get past 2nd.

Could it have destroyed 3rd in that little of a time, did I miss checking something or_____?:dunno:

Thanks in advance.

3-4 clutch likely gone. High mileage, and a 6 quart loss is not a good combo.

Drop the pan, and tell us what you find.

It does sound like it's had enough. 6 quarts is a lot to lose.
If you have a transmission shop near you, limp it over and have them scan it. My '99 was only hitting in 1st and 2nd with some wild rpm's. I had it scanned and believe it or not, it was the TPS. Of course, I didn't lose 6 quarts of fluid, but did just do a fluid and filter change in it. :dunno:

Just curious but do you have a transmission temp gauge? That amount of fluid loss more than likely caused some damage, not to mention how hot it might have been running for how long the coolant line was pinched, not allowing proper cooling. Hopefully it is just a simple issue but more than likely it is gone.

Its most likely toast. Have a reputable transmission shop look it over.
