Its just the timing after the mechanism is opened until actuator engages that youd have to work on.

I'm checkin into it. Just trying to figure out how strong of a solenoid I'll need to pop th elatches on the hatch (it has 2 latches). And I'll need to see if the linear actuator would close it hard enough for the latches to catch and latch the door shut

That too. The circuit would be kind of complicated like that. I wonder if a PAC-TR7 timer module would work in this case?

Give this some thought....old Cadillacs had a POWER TRUNK closer/pulldown.
One of them could probably be adapted to.... BOTH...close the hatch the last inch or two and have an automatic release.
They used them on Caddys from early 60's to mid 90's.
There are about 30 years worth of the power pulldowns in wrecking yards.

I know what yer talkin about Jim. It was mainly on mid 90's cars. You would close the trunk, then it would latch but still be "open" about an inch or 2. Then a motor would lower the trunk lid the rest of the way down. They came on some of the higher end olds and buicks too, like the 98 and Park Avenue. I tried to convert one into my cutlass I had. It seemed too much of a pain since the pulldown part was mounted into the catch and the floor of the trunk. I dont think that would work in my burban, everything would have to be built into the latch since there is no room on the floor to mount a new catch.
