Lucky Fugger has a wife that helps sand and paint on his truck !!! You ever get sick of Betsy, just lemme know !!! I've got plenty of squares to keep her busy. I'll get my 85 K1500 lookin just as good by end of next spring. Kinda sucks but it doesn't really, ever since I've got the new tow job, I've only driven my K1500 once for 3 miles, and the C20 once for about 4 miles. Haven't had the need since I drive the tow truck everywhere. Saving me bigtime on gas expense though.

You got your truck with paint and a good crate motor dawg! You are miles ahead of my truck. My next big move I have to look forward to is getting a fresh engine so I can move onto rebuilding a SM-465 and it will have a solid drive train, after that I get to start on body work and doing the paint.

If I owned your K1500 I would drop it off at Maco and have a quick coat of white shot on it and be done! Its got the fresh crate motor already and I know you rebuild a trans for it so I would just completely re do the interior and drive the hell out of it.

Yeah, you're about right on target. Being White, and going back with white, I think I might try to paint it myself. With light colors, flaws don't show to bad, and I'm not going for showroom new since its a 4x4 and going to be getting abused. I just want it safe, sound and sanitary. Need to get the power windows going up and down, and the blower for the heat and AC going and I will drive the hell out of it when I'm not in the tow truck.
But you damn sure brought yours a very long way from the day you got it from your uncle.

Well its been a really long time since I have posted so here is some stuff I did to the 85 Recently.

This first started as a clutch job because the throw out bearing was making noise and it turned into a bigger project.

AC Delco clutch kit:

Got some new seals:

A friend helped me pull apart an extra transmission and we installed some new bearings:

So everything went wrong when I decided I was going to change the gasket behind the plate that houses the rear main seal gasket pictured here:

I did not realize the pan needed to be dropped and accidentally tore the oil pan gasket so I went to replace it and opened a whole new can of worms.

After hours of cleaning the oil pan I find this:

This caused a ton of confusion, I cant even recall how many different gaskets I bought:

Finally got this:

So when it came time to get the flywheel machined I found that Napa has a brand new unit for about the same price.

Im sure someone else knows this trick but you can remove the pilot bushing by backing the cavity full of grease, inserting the alignment tool supplied with the clutch it and smacking it with a hammer. It pneumatically pushes the old bushing out and makes a huge mess.

this was an awesome sight, and changing an oil pan is way easier with the engine free from the trans.

If you ever think about buying one of these just dont. Do not buy one of these.

In all fairness it did do the job twice but it is such a huge pain in the ass its incredible and also very dangerous.

First reason this thing sucks ass is the height from the ground to theplate. To explain it simply you cant just put it on the jack and slide it under the truck because the combo is way to high. If you had the truck high enough for it to slide under on the jack its going to require a car lift. I managed to get it done like this.

cinder blocks under the tires was a perfect height with enough room to roll around and easily reach everything while on my back.
SA400022.jpg

I slid the whole assembly on 2x4s under the truck.
SA400019-4.jpg

If this looks scary thats because it is, from here it was a balancing act of jacks and blocks to get it high enough to slide the Chinese death jack under it.
SA400034.jpg

After doing all this nonsense the jack will do what its intended and its not so scary.
SA400021-4.jpg

By far the worse thing about this jack is the most dangerous thing about this setup and its all in the design of the linkage to keep the pivot parallel with the ground. With the jack all the way down (where you need it at first) the whole assembly will rock and fall back onto the jack, stupidest shit I have ever seen. If you look on the box for the transmission jack adapter it tells you to buy this floor jack for this particular adapter.
