I picked up what I think could be the perfect cooler for my power steering and hydro boost system. But, I have a couple of questions before I tear into it. I know Ford had the idea of running all that extra cooling line across the cross member to help cooling. So if I install that cooler, will I still require all that extra line? Also, where should the cooler be installed in the lines? At what point in the circulation process would be the best place to hack in and install the cooler?

The cooler should be installed so that it cools the fluid after the steering sector before it goes back to the pump reservoir. I'm not sure on all of your lines but that is the way it should be connected.

My mother-in-laws 95 Mark VIII had a power steering cooler. It was mounted horizontal underneath the front valance. I guess they figured the airflow was going to go over it in that position. :dunno:

Any extra lines, the longer the better to a point I would think adds to the capacity of the system and helps keep things cool.

That was NOT one of Fords better designs. When ever i was still driveing a wrecker, any time we heard a high spped chase we always knew that we were going to be needed. Everytime the took them off the highway on to country roads and back roads the hi po's car would always bottom out and rupture the lines.

Kind of a weird feeling when your rollin down the highway, and you look in your mirror and see a full grown on your ass.

I agree on a low slung vehicle it can be a bad hting.

In front of your radiator? That sounds like a lot of extra line. What year is your Chevy? I think I might mount one on my Chevy as well if I like the looks of where your is mounted.

My truck is an '06 and this is the factory mounted PS cooler. The pic isn't the greatest since I was trying to get a shot through the grille openings but you should get the idea. It's mounted in front of the radiator just off to the drivers' side. The lines penetrate the core support so there really isn't much extra line.

Supply and return lines center of the pic.
