Could have sold the welder and bought two ladders.

No I couldnt either. Back 2012 it retailed for $400 now it retails for $300 from Amazon.

Oh, well then at $189 new, I am sure that dude was thrilled

Werner 10 ft. Fiberglass Step Ladder with 300 lb. Load Capacity Type IA Duty Rating-NXT1A10 at The Home Depot
Step ladders are pretty reasonable, unless you buy those twin step stepladders. The only drawback to those are they weigh a ton. Every ladder I own, be it step or extension are Werner 300lb rated. I won't use anything else.

I have to imagine birthing two ladders in succession has to be pretty taxing. Never even saw a pregnant ladder though.
