Dose this clunking noise only happen when turning? My father in laws truck has a knocking sound in the dash when he drives over a bumpy road. I cant remember if its in the steering wheel or not. Its a 2006 gmc 2500HD.

No, not only when turning. I have heard it in the scenario you mentioned. Entering every damn parking lot I would hear it on my '05

Often, the brake pedal has a lot of play in it side-to-side as well and some of what you guys might be hearing is that vibration. Mine still does that plenty.

Is there a tsb for this?

Yes there is. But it's a TSB not a recall, so you pay for the repair on a 2006.

You can also have a bearing in the lower steering column cause this noise as well. The bearing is plastic and the steering shaft runs through it at the base of the column

How will I know if that is the problem vs the shaft? Will it be really loose/broken?
