Sorry guys probably should have addressed that.
The former solenoid was prone to having water drip on it where it runs off below the windshield and into the engine bay when being washed or rained on.
Common symptoms are random grinding noises when driving in any mode (4hi 4lo and 2hi).
The new cover simply prevents water from flowing onto the solenoid
Thanks, you know how these GM boys can be.:jester:

Good write up... I have seen a lot of threads on other site about people having problems but never know what it was to be honest. I haven't had any problems with mine. But I may swap it out this summer since it seems to be pretty easy and cheap to do.

Definitely cheap, easy, and a good "preventative maintenance" type of project!

A lot cheaper to replace this little bastard than have to deal with your front end in the future!

Yep, that's kind of what I was thinking... Cheap preventative maintenance
