GMT800 PCM Swap

I've been asked a few times on how to swap out my PCM & how long does it take me. I've always said "about 5 minutes", but finally took a video and find out my assumption was correct.

Here are some basic instructions with a quick video (of course the video is sped up, it's not very exciting).

GMT800 PCM Swap

Your PCM has a plastic cover on it and is located in-between your battery and alternator. Be sure to disconnect your negative battery cable before proceeding!

Release the 2 tabs holding the plastic cover in place (one at the top and one on the side towards the front of the vehicle).

With a 7mm or 9/32" socket, start removing the bolts that hold the 2 wiring harnesses in place (it takes quite a few turns to remove these, just take your time and make sure the bolts are all the way out before disconnecting the wiring harness from the PCM, also, be sure the orange gaskets surrounding each wiring harness stay in-place).

Remove the metal clip on the top of the PCM holding it in the tray, a screwdriver or pliers works best.

Remove the PCM and install the replacement PCM in reverse order (be sure the wiring harness slides in easy, don't force it).

No problem!

I took this video tonight when I swapped out the Black Bear PCM for my Stock PCM, I'm taking it in for service tomorrow. Having both PCM's on-hand make it really easy to put the truck back to "stock" so a service technician doesn't know it's tuned.

I'm glad nothing messed up but I never removed my neg cable when I swapped out my PCM.

I 'forgot' to do that one of the first times I switched my ECM. I told Justin about it at the tune, and he told me it's more of just a precaution than anything.

Probably wouldn't hurt anything, but they recommend it, just better safe than sorry!
