I have no idea why they don't make that engine. Do they think people wouldn't buy the gas versions anymore? I bet they would sell that crap out of those things.

My guess is cost. I highly doubt there would be much of a cost difference between a 4.5 diesel and a 6.6 Max (and Al).
I'd bet you are 100% right. There isn't much (if any) difference in cost just because the displacement is a little smaller. Still have to engineer and produce all of the parts.

I don't think it would sell in any real numbers anyway. MOST Americans are not interested in diesels (it has been proven time and time again) and a little better fuel economy isn't going to sway them. If that was the case the Ford and GM trucks would not be the top selling vehicles...

I don't think it would sell because of fuel efficiency... i think it would sell for the torque in a 1/2 ton truck.

However, if its $6-$8k more than a truck with the 6.2L then i can see them having trouble selling......

American buyers have historically shunned diesels every time they were offered by a manufacturer. They just don't buy them in any real numbers. I can't say I blame them. I don't want one of the nasty smelly noisy beasts myself.

NO THANKS!

Just all speculation. Probably why none of us are high paid marketing specialists

I don't buy that. The vast majority of truck buyers would pass on the diesel. Who could blame them?

More expensive.
Noisy.
Smelly.

It seems pretty simple to me.

I could go either way, gas or diesel. There are pros and cons just like everything though. . .

MPG increase (small)
Increased power
Longevity

All i can say is that my next truck is probably going to be a 2009-2010 Ram unless GM puts out that 4.5L :naughty:
