Just some quotes regarding others having the same problem.

Well The Idle problem came back and a mechanic friend told me about a the same type of problem he solved. He told me to take out the computer (ECM) and shake it, if it has anything making noise in it, replace it. I did shake it and it sounded as if it had a couple pieces of sand in it. I went and got a remanufactured one and the truck now idles great, throttles down as normal and the gas milage is great. I think it was the ECM all along. So for $81.00 at advanced auto parts the problem is gone and the truck is running great. Look at the ECM if you have got lots of miles on the truck and it has a high idle.

I think I had a similar problem on a 98 4.3 X engine. The engine would sit at 1500-2700 RPM when slowing down with the clutch in, only slowing down to idle after I came to a complete stop. Even then the idle was high (around 1000 RPM). I tried everything I could think of over the past year... IAC valve, TPS, Crank Position Sensor, VSS, WSS, MAF, MAP, among a few other things. It had been getting worse over the past couple weeks, then I noticed it sounded like I had a vacuum leak. Turns out the hose coming off the PCV valve was cracked. Once I replaced it all my problems went away.

Just so I can keep my info in one spot.

Talked to the guy I know in town and he said I can borrow his. All I know is it is a Nemisys. I've used it before and it is a very nice unit. I'll get it from him next week. Right now I'm drooling over these on the internets.

Quick Q:
Can I remove, clean, and re-install my EGR?

What are "these" ? Scan tools....smarty pants :D

And yes, I believe you can... just be careful with it!
Cool, I'll see what the scan tool says first and if it mentions anything about the EGR. If it does, I'll attempt to remove it.

Nemisys is great little unit. Very cool!
I'm not sure if it is THIS ONE or not (looks similar), but it is a very nice unit. I'd need the manual just to figure out what everything it is telling me means. From what I can remember, the large screen is really nice and easy to read. Everything is pretty self-explanatory while navigating through the menus.

I'd love to have one like it, but before I spend $500 on a hand-held, I'd rather spend $800 and get EFI Live.

For significantly less I can hook you up with a great guy in GB that sells the aeroforce interceptor gauges.

That scan tool is nice but it has too many buttons for me to be trusted with it.

Im no hi speed tool turner but heck its free-try taking the post off the battery for a min. If it has a computer it will reset itself-sorry if that don't help.

That never works for me, throwing it across the garage has been pulling in a solid 99% success rate.

Edit: remember this tip only works if you take a video and post it on :tmc:
