Why not do a 5.4 swap?

I understand the gears, and eventually transmission and all. I see all of that needing upgrading at some point. The thing about gears is I wouldn't go to 4.11's I don't believe. With the extra power I think I wouldn't want that ratio, maybe 3.73, and I don't think I can warrant the cost of the gears with that small of a change until they were to eventually break
I read your other thread, for 33.3" tires, I think you need at least 4.11 gears regardless.

5.4 swap would be a pain in the ass compared to building what I already have, I don't think the 4.6 gets the love it deserves, a lot more proven than the 5.4 3v from 04-08. If you think a supercharger opens a can of worms, a 5.4 would be a whole other world. I will do gears at some point. Hell I want to do it all... but it will take some time, and some dough....

What gears do you have now?

I am running 35's with my stock 3.73 and I think it is fine, still enough power, and I didn't notice much of a drop in MPG.

I say for 33.3's you should be fine with 3.73, if you have 3.55'it might be pushing it, but if you have gone this long, why change now, go for the supercharger

3.55's is what the truck has. Have had 33 inch tires for 70k plus now. I'm leaning supercharger, and I'll do gears some point later. I don't think I would need to go to 4.11's if I gained horsepower. I think I would go 3.73 to save some mileage and I think that small of a gain isn't worth it until the gears give out.

A supercharger is $6-7k which to me really isnt worth it, especially on a higher mileage truck.

Gears will run around $500-600 installed per axle. I had 4.10's put in a Mustang I had and they made a huge difference compared to the factory 2.73's.

I'm waiting on a cost now. Gears will be more like 2 grand for my truck. If I'm going to do it, I'm replacing the limited slip too. Y'all have to understand, this truck isn't about practicality anymore. It is becoming my toy I plan on having for years to come. I'm not one to let go of vehicles I make my own by personalizing. I want to make this truck more me. So if I put 10 more grabs into it, I'm happy with that.

I actually considered buying a supercharger for my truck when I sold my Mustang but then I saw the price and decided to pay off bills instead.

A rebuild kit for the 8.8 limited slip is cheap. I bought one for my Mustang and the clutch kit was like $50 or less. Why would you replace the whole unit?

I learned from my mistakes when it comes to putting money into vehicles and now I just do practical mods, if any at all. I do plan on leveling mine since it needs struts and shocks anyway and I plan on getting slightly bigger tires because mine will need replacing soon. I plan on keeping my truck quite a while but dont plan on spending a ton of money modding it.

I had around $20k into my Mustang over the 5 years I owned it and only put about 6k miles on it and sold it for $4100 just to get rid of it.

I think the stock limited slip sucks, If I'm going into something like gears or something, I'm going do it better than stock. I won't buy another truck if I have this one. I am keeping it semi practical, no big lifts or anything, but a upgrade to the power train can never be a bad idea if I plan on keeping it for years. Trucks and cars are an expensive hobby no doubt, but I'm ok with that!
