Just curious... if you're the type of person who only likes to put 20 or 30 bucks of fuel in at a time instead of filling it up, can that cause problems in the tank? I normally always fill up entirely, but always wondered if you were the type of person who only put a little in at a time, would it be recommended to say... fill your tank completely at least once a month, once every 90 days etc...?

I don't think it makes any difference. Even if you fill the tank every time, it's only partially full once you drive a bit anyway.

Fuel tanks are normally only partially full.

Should not cause any problems at all.

I think part of the old wives tale about always filling the tank comes from the old days when tanks were basically unprotected metal that rusted. Keeping them "full" kept them from condensing water vapor and rusting internally.

Modern tanks are almost all plastic or seriously galvanized metal. Nothing to worry about there.

I only put $40 in each time I fill, I run between 1/4 - 1/2 since I cant afford to keep it full all the way, and I seem to get better mileage in that range. I average 120 - 140 miles per quarter in that section, compared to 100 - 120 from 1/2 to 3/4.

The bottom half of your tank is bigger than the top half... :jester:

I've never understood that. Unless gas prices change drastically daily (up AND down), what difference does it make? Sure they change, but rarely enough for more than $1 or 2$ per tank

Is $40 today and $40 next week better than $80 today and $0 next week? :dunce: I can see that it cost "twice as much" but it's only "half as often"

On my farm tuck I only put in 20 or so at a time, but that can last me all month. I do notice that the gauge startes to flutter around the 1/2 tank to 1/4 tank mark. It may be due to some fuel deposits. :dunno:

It doesn't affect the drivability, just the spaze out when you glance at the fuel gauge.
