To me, that "jump" didn't look too impressive. Like I said, the Raptor may be able to do it more gracefully, but I think 2010 Silverado/Sierra/Ram/Tundra/F-150 wouldn't break anything while doing it...but, I could be wrong....
I'm sorry (well...no I'm not), but I just don't find this truck impressive in the least.
I guess I'm missing "it".

Personally, I would MUCH rather have a Lightning.

That's just the 800lb. tires working there. Wheel base is so long on our trucks they're terrible off-road.

What "hatred"? I just don't see the Raptor as anything special or unique. That doesn't mean I 'hate' Ford.

I happen to like MANY Ford products, let me introduce you to some:

I dislike Ford's new, North American products...but to 'hate' Ford, I would have to 'hate' the Falcon...a car I would buy the DAY it went on sale here. So, I do not 'hate' Ford...I dislike their NA offerings.

Now that is interesting, if Ford is building the Raptor as a Super Crew it makes the Raptor choice more appealing to me.

Both the Raptor and the Power Wagon need some work to complete the package for what I would be using them for. I would use the truck for back country exploration in the southwest desert, and for towing an all aluminum tilt bed trailer with ATVs and dirt bikes on it.

The Raptor needs a winch to complete the package, because sometimes the truck is called on for rescue duties, to get into the back country and retrieve one of the other toys after they're broken. Luckily they make a nice winch set up for the Raptor.

The Dodge needs a new set of tires and wheels. The tiny 33" tires and plastic coated wheels don't serve this truck adequately. I'm thinking the cost of upgrading wheels and tires on the Dodge is about equal to the cost of adding a winch to the Raptor. So no net advantage to either truck here either.

I'm glad I started this thread, because it has helped me run through the decision making process, and has provided links to sites with more information on the Raptor. I've spent a good part of the day looking at information on raptoroffroad.com. One of the interesting finds was that, depending on what options the truck comes with, the cargo capacity is somewhere between 819 and 971 lbs. That means for an optioned out Raptor, which mine would be, I can carry about 800 lbs. Think about that for a minute, because that includes the driver and passengers in the truck. I weigh 250, and my wife and two teenage sons combined probably weigh 500 lbs. That makes 750 lbs right there. How in the world would we put two or three dirt bikes in the bed of the truck? Or how would I tow even a light weight trailer with say 300 lbs of tongue weight?

You guys were right, the Raptor is an expensive toy. The suspension is meant to flex, and to soak up rough terrain, but not to carry anything. I would love a truck like the Raptor, but I need a truck that can also work as a truck at least as much as a "normal" 1/2 ton truck. In reality I probably need a 3/4 ton truck. I've already got my share of expensive toys (1st edition Challenger, Can Am Renegade 800R, KTM 505 XC-F, Suzuki Boulevard M109), and I suppose I don't need another one. Thanks guys, this really helped.

I had to drive 250 miles for business today, and stopped at a Ford dealership in a bigger city. They had a black Raptor there that I was able to check out. I must say that it is the best looking truck I have ever seen, both inside and out. This truck had the luxury group with the navigation system, and the interior is very much race inspired, from the way the seats feel to the layout of the dash gauges and shift lever. It is a very very trick looking truck, inside and out, ... absolutely beautiful. MSRP was $45K, and the dealership wanted $53K for it.

I asked the salesman how much weight you could put in the bed, and he said "oh, at least 1200 lbs". I then opened the driver side door and read the bold lettering on the sticker to him, it said "Never exceed a combined weight from occupants and cargo of 839 lbs". The salesman raised his eyes, dropped his jaw, and said "That can't be right, it must be a typo". Yeah, right, a typo on the GVW decal. When was the last time you saw that?
