Ford FE Engine Bore

Does anybody know how far out round can FE engine be before it has to bored out? i have 390 thats 3-5 thousands out of round when checking it with a bore gauge. Its currently bored out to 30 over.


Go by measurements on reading a camping compass.

N to S and E to W is 5 thousands out. NW to SE and NE to SW is 3-4 thousands out. Its mainly in the middle of the cylinder wall that out.

If you did it right, that's bad.

Typical max is around .0015, I don't care who's engine it is.

OK, I know the stock piston to wall clearance is supposed to .0015 to .0023.

Next issue. Napa saying that boring to 40 over wont be enough. There recommending 60 over. What your thoughts?

Nope $20 per hole plus another $65 for hot tanking it after its bored. The engine kits are $400 w/free shipping reguardless of it being std, 30, 40, or 60 over.
