Flashing headlights is an age-old method used by motorists to tip off other drivers that there’s a highway patrol officer nearby.

It frankly never occurred to us that this technique might be illegal, but motorists in some states have been ticketed for flashing their headlights.

I've been known to warn other drivers of speed traps and the like.

What about you??

I've had people flash theirs at me as a warning. Don't think I've ever been the flasher though. I sort of figure if people are dumb enough to drive 60 in a 40, they deserve what they get. Cops are only doing a job. They don't make you speed.

TX, where else should I be?
I've used it to warn people when there is actually danger ahead but never for a cop. I say let 'em get fried by that officers radar gun. I never have any need to speed.

I saw and did it more so in the midwest. Here in Fl. I have only seen it done once or twice and I have yet to do it. Funny how the article is talking about FHP.
