I actually didn't notice any difference in the way mine runs or sounds. But the oil monitor obviously has noticed a difference. My truck is a 2001, so it doesn't actually show a % of life left. It simply shows a "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message when the oil needs to be changed. It usually came on between 5k and 7k when I used the Mobile 1 SuperSyn. Since I started using the Amsoil XL, I ran it all the way to 10k miles and the light never did come on, but I changed it at 10k anyway.

My Blazer ran smoother, had better throttle response, and better fuel mileage on Amsoil vs. Mobil 1... My Sierra just got quieter... Still have some lifter noise though.

Scotty, I put the Scan Guage II in my truck and set it up to show oil life so now I have a % and not just a light that comes on when it is time to change. Plus it has all the other great bells and whistles.

:dunno: I don't think I noticed anything different from switching from Valvoline full synthetic to Amsoil OE.

Do you have oil that will last 10k + miles in my truck, the way I drive?

Dennis, the ASL would be the oil you want if you are looking at going past 10K. It is more $$$ but it can provide the protection you need past 10k. :)

Changed the Hemi's oil today..... my friend (Seth) showed us a nice leak in the passenger side half shaft seal. It will be going back to the stealership for that! :fume:

He also noticed that when the stealership did the 'free' first oil change, they installed an oil filter (we believe) that was defective....we hope. Seth said the quad ring looked ok and he cleaned off a bunch of 'gunk' from the frame that had leaked. When it goes back to stealership, I am planning on having them check on that. :(

Otherwise, no noticeable difference in the Hemi noise, not like in the Ford. :) I feel better that crappy oil filter is off of there. We have had no dripping on the driveway, so it wasn't leaking too bad.

That's what I've got in there now... I'm down to about 80% @ 1900 miles

You do know that the oil life monitor (OLM) does not monitor the oil, right?

For those who may be unaware of how it works.

Its a computer algorithm that uses engine speed, engine starts, engine temps, engine rpms, and other sensor data as input into computer program, then assigns valves based on severity and counts down to 0% remaining(basic explanation but much more complicated). Basically a vehicle that is driven mostly at normal speeds on the highway will be ideal conditions and take longer to reach 0%. Vehicles driven in stop and go traffic, that are idled a lot, have turned on and off many times in a day will likely see shorter oil change intervals. Anything that stress's the motor also stress the oil and would make it count down faster.

The type of oil has nothing to do with it except in programming of the OLM. Vehicles that come factory filled with synthetic oil, i.e. Corvette and Cadillac will have the OLM set to a higher count than those that don't come with synthetic. Note-GM trucks DO NOT COME with synthetic oil, they come dexos1. Oils can be synthetic blends and meet dexos1 spec's, GM sells them even under the AC Delco brand.
