Look up SCT tuned 5.0L f-150 and you would be surprised how much Ford is holding it back to push the ecoboost.

You don't even have to do that. Just look at the sandbagged tow ratings and the un-availability of 3.15 rear gear with the 5.0. That's all the proof you need.

the 5.0 I drove with a 3.55 moved the Eff out from a stop. I would of liked to try one with a 3.73 like the ecoboost had.

If you have a lot of torque... let it do the work...then you don't need the high RPM for horsepower.

Lots of old school trucks/cars used 3.07 rear ends.
My 74 Chevy pickup with the 454 had 3.07 in it.

The Mercury Turnpike Cruiser of the early 60's, weighed well OVER 4000 lbs, had a 430 Cubic inch engine with 2.91 gears and would get low 20's MPG on the highway...

So when it's just cruising and pretty much acting like a normal V6 (little to no boost) it gets V6 mileage when asked to work (high boost) it gets V8 mileage...not bad considering the performance of it.

I drove an eco-boost and a 5.0 back to back today and can honestly say the 5.0 moves out good, but I dont think the power difference was enough to make me want it.

yeah , but with under 1000$ of mods who do you think will drive better?
i realy think that turbo gas trucks will be the next big thing.

Its tough to say, the 5.0 in the mustangs responds hugely to minimal mods. Regardless, I wouldnt mod either truck

You wouldn't. HOWEVER, if fuel economy is your goal, then 3.15 gears is appealing.

The fact that Ford conveniently does not offer the 5.0 truck with 3.15 gears tells me that Ford is purposely making the 5.0 numbers WORSE to protect the Ecoboost engine.

I mean...do we really think that the 5.0...with slightly less power...would do any worse in terms of everyday performance with 3.15s vs the 3.31s?

There is a reason that the 5.0 is not offered with the same 3.15 gears as the Ecoboost...and I believe that reason is because if the 5.0 did have those gears, it would get the same mileage as the Ecoboost.

That seems to be a plausible explanation. They're trying to set a new trend but don't want to show them being outperformed by their other engines.
