I honestly don't know a whole lot about them, but I've heard more bad than good. My chiropractor's got one, and just about every time I see him, he's talking about something else that needs to be fixed. He does pull a 5th wheel horse trailer, and drives like a madman, though.
Yeah the 03's and 04's have had thier fairshare off issues from what I have read.
The last of the 7.3's (a few 03's and under) were a solid engine.
I also have a buddy who had a 7.3 that was the WORST engine I've ever seen in ANY vehicle first hand.
Not sure what the hell had been done to it before he bought it.

The 7.3 was a great engine according to all I have dealt with. In fact, I've seen first hand some 6.0 to earlier 7.3 conversions in F350 trucks.
The 7.3 was either amazingly durable, no matter what was done to it... Or amazingly fragile no matter how nice it was treated... There was no in-between...
But when it was solid... It was SOLID. I have no doubt the GOOD 7.3's will wrap an odometer.
However, without mods, city driving... a 6.0 is WAY more streetable than a 7.3 stock for stock.

I'm NEW... What now?
Let alone the increase in hp between the 6.0's and 7.3's stock is huge. It takes alot to make a 7.3 fast where the 6.0 take's alot less. The 05 and up 6.0's are great engine's. Some have their issues but what motor doesnt? The major problem with the 6.0 is the head gasket issue and EGR. Mainly the head gasket though, which while Ford had the motor out of my truck under warranty I had them instal ARP studs so the heads will not lift. With that being done almost bullet proff. Knock on wood lol.
You'd be lucky to get that warrantied here
The amount of people that chip them, and pop the gasket is a LOT

I'm NEW... What now?
My head's where not blown they had my motor out to fix a oil leak around my oil pan and bedplate. So I decided to put stud's in before anything happened as preventative maintence.
Sooo...
I called the guy who I ordered the cam through. Comp was closed the last week in December, so everything go pushed back (it would've been nice for somebody to let me know this...). He says the FedEx tracking number puts it in his shop on Monday, and that I should have it 4-5 days later.
So it looks like absolute BEST case scenario, the cam/pushrods are still a week out.
Also, I'm borrowing a valve spring compressor, the tool to hold up the lifters, and the harmonic balancer puller from a local guy on PT.net. Picking the stuff up tomorrow at noon.
I'll probably get restless, and do the springs some time this weekend or next week.
