Will a dual in/out Magnaflow Muffler take the place of a true x-pipe? I am looking to get a true dual exhaust on my F150 and was wondering if just the Magnaflow muffler would work. I have read over a bunch of threads and even tried searching for this answer in here and in a lot of the F150 forums and can't seem to find the answer. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I am new to all of this and finally got my dream truck and really want to do this right. Thanks again for all the help. :dunno:

I think you'll need an x pipe with the Magnaflow. Dynomax ultra-flo x muffler has a built in x pipe.

So the Tru-X Perforated Core on the universal dual in/out Magnaflow muffler isn't the same as the Dynomax Ultra Flo X muffler? Just trying to wrap my head around this. :ohnoes:

Magnaflow has several universal mufflers with this, also. Check the site, and they are denoted with the "Tru-X perforated core" in the description.

Some descriptions of one:

MagnaFlow Mufflers - MF11378
Two perforated cores in Tru-X mufflers intersect in the middle to pull gases, rather than push them, through the exhaust system. This suction effect diminishes the decibel level and boosts mid-range horsepower, improving overall engine performance.
Features:
Unique exhaust flow increases mid-range horsepower, torque and fuel efficiency, improving engine performance
Two stainless steel, perforated cores intersect in the middle of the muffler
Innovative "X"-shaped design pulls exhaust, rather than pushing it, through the muffler
Intersecting cores create a suction effect that all but eliminates noisy exhaust flow to deliver a smooth, deep tone
Lap-joint welding provides durable construction - also prevents distortion and cracking
100% Stainless steel composition resists corrosion
Satin finish
Reversible muffler functions in both directions; can be flipped around for custom installation
Welding required for installation
Made in USA

Specs:
Muffler shape: oval
Overall dimensions: 4" tall x 9" wide x 17" long
Body length: 11"
Inlet/outlet diameter: 2-1/4"
Inlet/outlet position: dual/dual
Core diameter: 2-1/2"
Lifetime warranty

The two stainless steel, perforated cores in this muffler intersect in the middle, creating a suction effect. Whereas most mufflers push gases through the exhaust system, Tru-X mufflers pull them through using suction. This type of exhaust flow increases mid-range horsepower, torque and fuel efficiency. All these factors lead to improved engine performance.
The "X"-shaped intersection that creates the suction effect also reduces loud exhaust noise. The resulting tone is a smooth, deep growl, specific to MagnaFlow.
The inlets and outlets are lap-joint welded to the muffler body for durable construction that eliminates distortion and cracking. All materials are made from 100-percent stainless steel with a satin finish, making this muffler corrosion resistant.

Re: Dual In/Out Magnflow Muffler

thanks penguin for the info. I thought that was right. was just wanting to make sure. what size would you suggest as far as spacing and length? I know that I want the 2.5 diameter. just not sure on the length. the shorter the louder right?

The shorter, the louder. Spacing will depend on your pipes. Perhaps one of the many Ford boys can speak better to this, or ask your muffler shop what they suggest on the system they plan to install for you.

If you're wanting loud, go with just 2.5" pipe back to 3" tips. Here it is on my old truck.

Re: Dual In/Out Magnflow Muffler

I don't want it too loud. I was just asking the shorter the muffler the louder the sound? that way I could sort them all and get the sound i want..
