My left door speaker in my silverado is working and not working most of the time, does that mean the speaker is going out or the stereo ?

If it's just the speaker does anyone know the size for replacement ?

I would like to upgrade to better speakers if it's the speaker going bad and would like to buy the speakers first before taking the door panels off.

Either bad or loose connection or it's going bad. You can check out crutchfield.com, insert your vehicle info and it will tell you what fits.

More than likely it's a broken wire between the door and the cab. Very common.

It is common for those speakers to simply stop working. I had to replace a couple in my old Silverado. I used 6.5 inch replacements.

thanks for the reply, I guess maybe i should check harder for a bad wire, i may have missed it the first time looking.

crutchfield shows a 6 1/2 and a 5 1/4 speaker.

So I guess the 6 1/2 like Zembonez used must be the one, thanks

What truck? GM? 6.5s work great in the doors. I have put them in all of mine.

On my baby one of my back speakers just stopped working I replaced them but one is making a rattling sound. This time around im getting some high dollar ones so I won't have to tear into the truck again. I messed up and thought Polk speakers would last.

It is possible you have a broken wire in the door jamb rubber boot. But its far more likely that you have a bad speaker. The GM speakers are notorious for the wire breaking on th speaker that goes from the speaker terminal to the cone. Sometimes it will touch and make the connection and work for a while. But then you hit a bump and the speaker stops working.
And the front doors use a 6.5 inch speaker or a 6.75 inch. The rear doors have 5.25 inch speakers if you have a crew cab. If its not a crew cab they have 4x6 speakers in the rear.
