Do you care about your Truck Warranty?

I had a 3yr extened warranty when I bought my Burban in Jan 2006. Literally days before the warranty ran out in Jan 09, I had to get the rear end rebuilt. So I guess the extened warannty actually paid off for once. As for the Cold start knock, they claim its normal and wont do anything about it.

I like that the warranty is there and I will use if I need, but I'm not going to go out of my way to void it.

I don't worry much about the warranty. The only time it comes in handy is when that little crap happens. Like the sun roof on the Acadia pissing water inside the passenger compartment like it was being poured in while it was raining out. Now having the warranty was nice not having to pay for that. I figure if something is going to happen it will after the warranty anyway. Just seems to be that way as usual. Warranties are just to give the buyer a piece of mind or is that peace of the mind?

The warranty on my '09 Dodge is essentially WORTHLESS, except for major items, because Dodge closed the six closest Dodge dealers to where I live. It is now a 107 mile drive to get to the closest dealer.

These new 4th generation Dodge trucks have three very common warranty items that need repaired. 1) the plastic cap on the top of the tailgate is cheap garbage that breaks and falls off if you even touch it with anything, and even if you just let your boots scrub across the top of the tailgait when the tailgate is down, when you jump out of the back of the truck. 2) the windshield washer bottle leaks, and is always empty, even if you don't use your windshield washer. 3) there is a piece of carpet stuck to the bottom of the airconditioner inside the cab. The glue goes soft and the carpet falls off and gets the sticky glue all over the carpeted floor mats on the truck.

Well I decided to have these three items fixed under warranty. So that meant an entire day off work to take the truck into the dealer and have them look at it, and order parts. Then another entire day off work to take the truck back to have them do the repairs after the parts came it. Plus 428 miles worth of driving to have the work done. Including income from time lost at work, and fuel cost, it cost me $2200 to have these simple little warranty items done.

Notice my other post on this forum right now, "Ford SVT Raptor vs Ram 2500 Power Wagon". Now you know why this long time Dodge fan is considering a Ford in his near future.

Getting screwed over by the manufacturer (NO MATTER who it is) makes you want to look elsewhere next time for sure.

Dodge's dealership closings just when they needed outlets for their products made no sense whatsoever.

Agreed. I always check out dealer reviews, visit the service department and get introduced to a service advisor (if I don't already know one of them) when I'm buying a new vehicle. If the service sucks, I won't buy a vehicle from that dealer, or even the manufacture. Unfortunately you don't always realize this until it's too late. But this is even more important when you're buying a $40k+ vehicle. If you're spending a lot of $$$ on a new vehicle, chances are the warranty and service is going to be a factor in your decision making process. For some reason the more you spend, the more crap breaks, and the more expensive it costs.

As for MOPWR2U comments regarding having the vehicle down for repairs, this is exactly why I bought an ext'd warranty with the truck that has loaner vehicle coverage that overlaps the standard warranty. This is my only vehicle (for now) and it's really annoying having to have a vehicle in the shop for more than a few hours. It's already saved me nearly $300 by covering a loaner for a week. It's something I got kinda used to when I had the CTS since it's part of the Caddy warranty. Very nice to have.
