After adding the Initial Line-x, the nerfs peeled after a week of extremely bad weather, I decided to add a custom raised Ford logo to them

Took the nerfs off and back over to Line-x. We sandblasted and primered them to make sure we had no trouble this time.

One of my engineers volunteered to draw the Ford logo up in Solidworks… The Logo was sized at 6” wide by 2.75” high to match the envelope of the area between the nerf footpads.

We then checked to see how it would look under different thicknesses of Line-x to see at what thickness the letters would run together. We then thinned out the lettering to get good flow around them at approx .100” Line-X thickness using a .100” thick Logo (Line-x is rated at .080” to .125”)

I then had my CNC operator cut out 2 different thicknesses of logos of .080” and .100” thick, so that I could test shoot them to see which provided better results. I had a .020 wide by .020 deep 45 deg. Chamfer all the way around the lettering to give the top a slight break for flow. We used a Datron High Speed CNC 60,000 RPM, 125” per second router to cut them out

Glued the 2 different thickness Logos down to a sheet of Aluminum, and we test shot them. The .080” thick logo did not shoot cleanly (top). The .100” thick logo shot crisply (bottom)

Filed the logos completely, rounded the sharp points and feathered the ends of the strokes thinner to help the flow and give them some additional contour. I had the logos made with rails between the F and the O to keep the proper spacing. I cut these out after I glued the logos in place.

Spent about 2 hours placing the Logos and coaxing a crown in the logo with a rubber mallet to match the crown on the top of the nerf. Then I glued them in place.

We then taped and shot the nerfs with Line-x E4 paint match compound. As usual I can’t take a photo of red. However all the Line-x work is an exact match

This set peeled up around the pads also. Took off the Line-x and decided to go with the .080 thick logos this time as the .100 think ones were too raised. Knocked the pads off and re-blasted and shot the Line-x. RTV'd the foot pads back on. Looks much cleaner and no annoying edges around the foot pad. Just realized I never took pics of the finshed project.

Total for the Line-x of the bumpers and steps was one $200 kitchen set. I love bartering...
