You have to admit though, if... you could do it at home with success, it would be pretty cool.

Depends on who you're trying to impress I guess.........

Now if you successfully drilled holes in your tires and didn't ruin them, I'd be very impressed!

Not really... I guess if you were putting them on a Camaro, Mustang, GTR or other sports car that had a really nice set of wheels on it and all you saw was the caliper, pads and rotors.... I guess with a sports car you might see the benefit of cross drilled rotors when you are on the track really digging into those turns. I am sure you would be sitting there with your foot on the brake and gas at the same time, its so cool that I got those drilled rotors, or better yet, that you drilled them yourself.

There is a possibility it might be cool if it was a show truck and it featured a 100% customized appearance.

In your case it would not be cool or beneficial. Sorry.

The reason I ask. My wife lives in north GA in the mountains. There are some road where you have to stay on the brakes going down and they are smoking when at the end. I figured getting the heat out with a set of cross dilled would be a good thing.

Downshift.

Too much risk on a vital safety component to be drilling the rotors your self and probably still wouldn't notice a different, if anything she'll have to use the brakes harder since a decent amount of surface area of the rotor would be removed.

What kind of car does your wife drive? Has she tried down shifting? What kind of brakes/rotors are currently on it? If rear drums, make sure the wheel cylinders are working and that the shoes are adjusted properly.
