He was alive and unconscious in the hospital, but never regained consciousness.
He was one of the last car to come into the accident scene. The car in front of him slowed down and launched him. Leads me to ask where was his spotter?

Yeah it looks like everyone else was slowing down but him. Just a sad, sad event.

I didn't think that about the spotter, but I did wonder why he was still going so much faster than everyone else when he got to the wreck..
