My cousin just got back from iraq acouple of weeks ago and he bought a 95 f150 extended cab 4x4 for $2000 acouple days ago. Now my cousin isnt the brightest person, so when i talk to him over the phone he says he doesnt know what's under the hood and he doesnt know if the 4x4 works...
I went over there to look at this truck the other day and first thing i see is RUST! The rear wheel wells are rusted through on the bed sides, The cab is rusted through on the rockers(on the ext cab part). And the underbody is screwed with rust. Put it this way, the front shocks are so rusted they'l soon start leaking from the bodies.. No joke, this truck is rusted.... He bought it in the town i live in which is in Florida, its obviously from up north and not from down here.. When i look at it he asked me if he did good. I was nice and said, ''If the 4x4 works.'' When i got there i looked under the hood and seen it has the 5.0 under the hood, and it has 202,000 miles on it. The tranny was so called ''rebuilt'', but my cousin has no documentation on that. So i looked under the truck and seen that the tranny looks like it hasnt been touched, so im sure it has 202,000 miles on it as well. I havent rode in this truck yet but he did start it and it sounded ok under the hood and all and didnt smoke.
I kept thinking to myself ''he could have done alot better.'' There are alot of 4x4's around here in that price range that arent rusted to hell and back. He could have easely got a nice little 4x4 yota with a 5 speed or even a 4x4 or even a different 4x4 f150. He bought this truck for a DD and so he could go mudding. But when he's out there mudding and a shackle says POP he's gonna have problems.. Id be alittle worried about driving this truck for too long, i see several places under there that looked like a structural worry. I will have pics soon cause i am going to change the oil in his truck for him and help him put a radio in it. I wish he would have told me he was going truck shopping. But what's done is DONE.
I have one question, How reliable is the 4x4 in these trucks? Any common problems?

. I cant beleive he didnt even ask. Or even take it to a dirt or gravel road and check before he bought it. I would not have bought this truck, but thats me. I hope atleast the 4x4 works and all is ok with that. But like i said i would be scared to do anything like 4x4ing in this truck. He better follow the rule, ''always go with a buddy.'' So when somthing breaks he has help. Ill be there the first time he takes it mudding(ill get pics and vids im sure). But i cant always be there.
