I have lost the clutch on my 2000 Ranger with a three liter. I checked the reservoir and it was dry so I added fluid. That did nothing; I still have to drive totally without the clutch. That made for a long trip home. I am thinking there is air in the line but I have never had a Ranger this new. So, before I start throwing parts at it or looking for something that might not be there, is there a common quirt I should look at or for on this truck? I would guess the clutch should be replaced anyway because of the high mileage. Even though the master cylinder appeared to be empty, I can find no signs of a leak. What would some of you do right now to diagnose the problem if it was your truck?

Sounds like a leaking slave cylinder. The slave cylinder is inside the bell housing on those trucks. It's a shitty design. You'll have to pull the trans to replace it. I'd check the clutch at that time. If it still has a lot of meat on it, I'd reuse it.

That is kinds of of what I had in mind but I am confused about the lack of fluid running out. There is no sign of a leak at all. Wouldn't there me fluid running out from some where?

Yeah. It had to go somewhere. I bet it's inside the bell housing. That master doesn't hold much.

The plug on my bell housing is missing. I would think it would leak out and leak some kind of sign. There is not even an oil leak on this thing.

how many miles?
the slave on my 99 went out at 123k. I would imagine its probably the same thing, as mine is a 3.0 as well

What would I do? As with any hydraulic system, I would bleed it.

There is a ton of info, if you google it. Here is the 1st video that popped up

I watched that video last night. I had no idea you had to go through all that.
