I have yet to hear a "good" sounding diesel powered vehicle. The only thing you hear is an ungodly loud and awful sounding engine.

It really is a very quiet engine. You guys might be surprised.

(I have had the opportunity to drive a Dodge 1500 with a 5.0L Cummins in it.)

GM did it with the GMT-400's. They put the 6.5L in 1/2 tons. I just don't know the years.

Why would anybody WANT a diesel if they didn't just have to have one?

Depends on how you define "want".

Most people who "want" a truck want something that'll tow well. Nothing tows better and more efficiently than a diesel.

So "us guys" in the 1/2-ton market who don't really "need" a 2500HD but still tow on occasion would just love to have an engine that could tow with ease and still get as good as "or better" gas mileage than our 1/2-ton gas engine lineup.

Not to mention the lifted truck market... the "usable" torque behind a diesel will really help us guys who want to run 35" tires on our lifted trucks. We won't need gears to get the RPMs up (since our gas engines make peak HP and Torque and such a high RPM that they really struggle).

I see the benefits... i just hope they keep it affordable

The Ford 300 six was the best truck engine ever made!! It got good MPG's, it had excellent torque for being a six, it was quite, it had good power, you could tow a cruise liner with a 1/2 ton and tow package with the granny gear 4 speed and it would f rigging run for 100's of thousdands of miles......in fact I think Ford trucks fall apart about around this engine. You can't say this about a 3/4 ton small block Chevy truck or Dodge. The small blocks just give it up while the 300 Ford just keeps kickin ass and pulling the them and cruise liner home.....

If you need something that is a great towing vehicle and will tow anything get one with the granny 4 speed trans as your tow vehicle. I think they are one of the best light duty towing trucks ever made and you can buy one cheap and find parts anyplace.

Ford should bring it back for their newer F150s and i'd take a look at one

ford put a v6 back in their F150's its just a twin turbo but its very torquey!

That is true. I think the truck market is going to be very interesting over the next 5 years.... every manufacturer is making major changes

I love the way the way the 5.9 Cummins rattles. Hell any diesel that is straight piped sounds friggin sweet IMO especially big rigs and old Detroits.
