Not to be mean here, but with cell phones, does anyone even use CB's anymore? Sorry to hear about your amps, you could shield the antenna wire, that would eliminate this problem in the future.

No signal up in the trails and to be safe communication is key.

im thinking about using black tape around the atenna wire or something to close off the signal so it can he just on the wire until it gets to the antenna

Probably RG-58/U, which has pretty good shielding. If it killed the amp just by being within a few inches then your SWR is probably through the roof. Probably around 5:1. You may have blown the output final on the CB as well.

Likely the problem is either a poor ground on the antenna (or mount), or a dead short in the antenna, mount or feedline.

and i need to have a ground on the antenna?
