ive had 2 car fax checks.. and they failed miserably... i wouldnt spend money on em either. friends truck had 9000 dollars in damage on his new truck... when he sold it.. it didnt report it... FAIL.

No, that's not a banana in my pants.
My cutlass was flooded in Katrina, and carfax didnt report it. But they did have a "flag" that the car was registered in an area declared a natural disaster at the time the natural disaster occurred. 
It was also totaled in 1999 by "minor" fire damage to the trunk area which I ended up repairing. That never showed up either. It seems the only things that actually DO show up are title transfers,registration renewals, dealer services or repairs, or if it gets sold at auction for salvage. Whoop dee doo!

I hit a deer about a few months after buying my '07 causing about $3k in damage. When I decided to sell the truck, I ran a CARFAX on it so I could provide it to any potential buyers. CARFAX didn't show anything about the repairs. I've heard others tell similar stories (other than those posted in this thread). CARFAX means nothing...they lost all credibility with me.
