Car Washing & Drying using 2 Bucket Method

No wash mit, rag, or brush will ever touch the paint on my truck. No way in hell.

with the XJ, watch the hood, man- they're notorious for "Hood Herpes" as the local Jeep club calls em, or "Hood Rash". the paint will start to get little crack marks in it, then bubble up, starting at the center crease. knocking on my desk as i type this, because mine isn't too bad and i plan on getting it stripped and color-matched next May.

Mitts, cloths, and brushes dont hurt XJ paint too bad. I'll give Chrysler this, they certainly do have a pretty solid clearcoat on the Jeep stuff. Claybar once a year plus waxing every month from June to September keeps Mean Green looking good when she isn't filthy.

I wash the XJ at the car wash. I like to wash underneath and all over after it gets a little dirty.

I've always done this since my detailing days for the dealer. Must not forget to have grit guards in them to remove any possible dirt specs/small sharp stones that can damage your pretty paint job. I do my truck weekly in the summer, and I usually need to refill them all 3 times. Once for paint, another for wheels & tires, and a final one for the frame.

I use only one bucket, but I rinse out the mitt after every pass by praying it with the water hose instead of using a second bucket.

You're supposed to wash your vehicles?

This would work well in the north with all that road salt and dirt.

If it is really dirty, I go through a good touchless car wash first to get all of the large dirt off of the truck. Even though it actually does get the paint fairly clean, it's far from perfect. But then I only need 1 bucket to wash it thoroughly by hand using a wash mit and bucket w/ grit guard (just in case). And of course washing by hand is the only way to get all of the spots that get missed during an automated car wash, such as the wheels, tires, grill, wheel wells, etc. After it's clean and dry, follow up with quick detailer and I'm good to go.

My main concern when washing a really dirty truck is rubbing dirt into the paint. Even with multiple buckets, clean mits, and grit guards, it's still a potential issue. Especially with a Black vehicle, where every spec of dust and micro swirl really stand out.
