Seriously though the 60 should be fine once it's built correctly
If you want to drop a ton of money on a inferior trans go right ahead. :D2

Hey Carl, how many built 4L60/4L65 transmissions have you broken?

Exactly. :D2 Part failures on the internet get blown way out of proportion.

I've got around 20k miles on my trans, with probably 80-100 1/4 mile passes, and many more 4x4 launches on the street, with absolutely no issues so far. Just run a good cooler, avoid 4-1 downshifts, and just don't be stupid and beat the shit out of it and it should last.

Da heads he is ordering, GMPerformance LS3
NAL-12582713_BK.jpg

Parts order for internals on hold. He had the cart in front of the horse (imagine that). I have been letting him make his own decisions, but I had to step in.
He is taking the block to the performance machine shop next week for them to mic, mag and inspect. They will make a recommendation for pistons based on those 2 damaged holes. I stuck a bore gauge in there, and .005" would clean up the damage.

I know that people have had luck with built 60's but why would you spend plenty of coin to build a trans that is in fact weaker than a junkyard 4l80. :dunno: I would personally save money and get a close to stock 80 than build a inherently weaker trans. But it's not my truck. So have at it. :D2

Few reasons. The 80 is significantly heavier, has a crazy tall first gear, requires a new cross member, and a decent amount of wiring. If you're 4wd like I am, that list gets a lot longer, and it does cost more than a built 60. If I had gone with an 80, I'd have spent more money to go slower.

A well built 60 is going to have a good chance at holding up to a naturally aspirated 6.0 that's not being driven like a complete idiot.

If we're talking F/I though the. Yeah, an 80 is pretty much a must, since nobody ever really stops adding boost.

My 4L60 held up just fine with 11psi on my Tahoe. The key is the driver like Dan mentioned. If you drive it like an idiot, it is bound to fail at somepoint.
