Yea i seen the piece hanging down from the tube and wondered why on earth they would design it like that since it would disrupt the smooth flow of air into your intake. So... basically to get the same effect i would just be better off with a strait through pipe and stock airbox?

Yes, the intake tube is the biggest benefit. Many have just the AIRAID Modular Intake Tube hooked to the factory box as mentioned

THREAD REVIVAL!

Digging through the garage the other day and found my SRI. Got to looking at it a little more closely and realized the throttle body boot was turned around the wrong way. So i spun it around so the short side went on and now i have plenty of fan clearance! VWALA!

Took her for a test drive the other night and she's running like a raped ape!!
But i do have to shield wrap that pipe because im noticing a bit of heat soak after the engine has been going for a little bit.

Have you already disconnected the coolant lines at the TB and bypassed it?
