If you look at this pic that Bubba took of his you can see it's a completely different setup.

IIRC, The Caddy's have the same set up. It used to be one big filter but you couldn't put the new one in without bending it or ruining. GM came up with the idea to make 2 smaller ones. You insert one and then the other.

Looks like just certain models of your truck came special order with cabin filters then. That sucks.

I don't think it was special order, as there's no RPO code for them, and anyplace you look up parts comes up with a filter for them. I think it's just that C&C trucks were built very differently from "standard" trucks... Which makes no sense to me at all. To me, if I'm building pickups and a customer wants one without a bed then I just don't put a bed on it. I may make changes to the rear light harness, and the fuel filler, but inside the cab? No way. And I especially don't see why they'd swap sides between the alternator and the a/c combressor, but they did/do.

You are right there. It doesn't make sense. I wouldn't think it would be assembled down the line than any other truck. At least that would make sense.

I'll have to do some more digging.

I'm on this band wagon.

I would think cost wise having them all roll down the same assembly line would make more sense and like you said Bernie just leave the cab which is the same base for different configurations alone. Then make the appropriate changes to the truck in the applicable areas.

Yeah, it really doesn't make sense to me to eliminate the cabin air filter on a cab & chassis (which then requires completely different ducts and parts than the standard model), swap positions between the alternator and the compressor (which then means different A/C lines and parts), all because there's not going to be a pickup bed on it.

Alright man you say you have a 99 gmc c3500 right? that would be the 88-98 half ton body style right? (like mine) if so you don't have cabin air filters. The parts store is probably looking up a gmc sierra 3500 for 99 because if i'm not mistaken gm continued production of the c3500 for 99 and sierra 3500 as well.

Entirely possible, especially since a lot of listings don't make any distinction between the two. Most just list either a C3500 or a C3500 Sierra, but seldom both.

Right on. No cabin filters on the older body style, only the new style 99 and up trucks. 1999 GM continued to make both styles during the change over. I had a work truck, a 1999 suburban and it was not the new body style, those came out a year later for the SYV's.

Models: 2003 up Cadillac Escalade Models
2003-up Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
2003-up GMC Sierra, Yukon Models
2003-up Hummer H2
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Condition/Concern:
A customer may inquire about the availability of the passenger compartment air filter.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Starting in the 2003 model year, the passenger compartment air filter is no longer available as a factory option.

Reason I heard it was deleted was lots customer complaints. Many never knew they existed and when they went to the dealer for HCAV problems and were charged to replace the filters, they complained. You can imagine telling some guy who drives around with the windows open all the time that he needs to spend $20, $50 or more to replace some filters he could care less about? As one tech told, more opt to tell him I am not paying to replace those, leave the !@#$%^&* out.
