Is there a place where you just buy the air tanks and electric motors. I know you can replace the electric motors. I was offered a large compressor unit for one for free but I would still need the tank and electric motor.

You might look around for an old butane/propane tank and mod the fittings to work as an air tank.

Is it really cheaper? I bought a new tank for one of my big shop units, I wished I never had, for an additional $800 I could have gotten a new I/R. Then, I bought a new compressor head for my body shop, same thing, a new I/R was only another $1000. These prices sound expensive, but I am talking about 25 hp dual head 3 phase units, so you have to put in in perspective.

It is like everything else, the components seem to be very expensive

I just have mixed feelings on to build one or buy one from sears with service contract. I need one with a big tank. I want it for sandblasting, painting, air wrench, air hammer, etc.

My little Brute 10 gal. isn't big enough for sandblasting, painting, air ratchet, and air hammer.
