Brian is know you're right on this one. I don't NEED it, just want it. I'm in no hurry, but I have to keep my eye out. I know that it has to be SF, whether it is 6 or 8 lug doesn't matter, neither does the gearing in it (since I'll never find 3.42's in one), or if it has a G80 or not, but would be nice.

So what vehicles/years should I be looking for?
88-00 K2500/K3500 SRW, 88-00 "heavy-half", What?

There is actually one right here in my town that I just found and has been on CraigsList since Sept 23rd. But to me, the hub looks just like the FF since it has the 8 bolts on it and it might not bolt up. What do you think?
Differential, Axle’s and brakes (RPO code GT5- 4:10 ratio, G80- Positraction, Limited Slip) complete rear end from late ‘80’s Chevy ¾ ton Suburban. Asking $250. Make us an offer.

Never mind. Just found pics of a SF and FF hub.

Semi-Float (SF)

Full-Float (FF)

Damnit! Not even 5 miles away and I can't use it! :frustration: :crybaby: :suicide:

Have you called around to the junk yards in your area?

Honestly I would look for the GMT-400 trucks with the 6.5 TD in a 1500 truck.

Anything you find from a k2500 or 3500 will have some grinding and welding to make it bolt up...

If you weren't on the other side of the world I would look around to see what I found and then meet you half way...

What years had the 6.5 in the 1500? Aren't they fairly rare?

Actually, I may have found the answer, but its 200 miles away.

Here is a list of some parts I pulled from my '88 chevy 1500 4wd truck... The truck had right around 110xxx miles on it:

GM 14 bolt Rear end with new axles, axle seals & brakes, 3.42 gear ratio... $200

Front gear case, with 4wd actuator, 3.42 gear ratio... $75
How's that sound? :D
Since it is a K1500 and not a K2500, it SHOULD be 6-lug right? I don't think they put 8's on any of the GMT-400 1500's.
Although, it does seem odd that 3.42's were a factory option with a heavy duty axle, but then again it is still a 1500.

I have seen the 6.5 diesel in 80's model trucks they just weren't turbo...

I'd say its worth checking it out... I think I drove to VA for my rear...

I picked it up in the Cavalier I used to own...

You fit it in a Cavalier!? 4dr? Or are you cheating and had one of the early wagon ones?

Well, since it can't hurt to call/email, I'll try to contact the person sometime this week.

Might just have to take a road trip in the S10...:naughty:
(need to do some major front-end work on the Silverado next year; don't have the funds right now; gotta pay for next (and final) semester of school first..gotta have priorities no matter how painful they are to swallow)

There's a guy over on GMT400 that had a Heavy-Half 6.5L, but I can't remember who it was or what year it was.

Nope 2002 LS 5 speed man. 2 door cavalier... I don't know if I have pictures of it in the car but I have pictures of the car... I already had the 10 bolt out of the truck..

I have the 6.5 in my 1999 dump truck...

But I have seen around here a couple Custom Deluxe old half tons RCSB's pre 87 body style with 6.5 diesels...

Wow, I bet the Cavalier just loved you after that one!

Any idea how much this will weight?
I think it should be less than 72" long (around 68" wheel-surface to wheel-surface on the drums) if I read correctly (so it might fit in the S10 with the tailgate closed).

it is damn heavy incredibly easy to work on and is damn tough, not with a G80. :D
