I dont think that I have ever bought diesel in Detroit...

I had an old Detroit 6-71...years and years ago.
Later had a 6-92, an 8-92 and a couple of 4-53's.
They are good engines and run for a long time, but they had a tendency to leak oil EVERYWHERE.
Had occasional injector problems with the 4-53's.
One of them washed down a cylinder one time.
Had to have it re-sleeved and new rings put on that piston.

Yeah, they are work horses. The newer 6-92s had diapers you could attach to the oil pans to keep the oil from dripping on the ground. But they are a pain to change.

Oh man, talk about messy. You could not change the pan diaper withoug getting covered in oil.
