That truck will be a hell of a truck for your needs.
We always ran extended cab 1 ton diesels with the dump beds back in my landscaping days. I always grabbed the keys to those trucks first before the regular bed trucks. The flat bed so much more convenient.
I'm willing to guess you won't lose too much mpg pulling a load. I would pull our John Deere tractor and 2 Bobcats and pretty sure I didn't lose much mpgs even with that heavy of a load. Of course I can't say for sure what we got b/c we never tracked it.
