I probably broke a tooth or something when I pulled tree stumps out of the ground. I was jerking the whole truck hard in 4wd enough to hear the horn go off. It started after pulling oak tree stumps out of the ground. It moves fine on hard pavement. Only does on grassy and gravel ground in reverse.

I'm having a hard time getting past this. What is involved in yanking on something so hard that your horn goes off?

Jack the truck up and pop off the differential cover. Do a little inspecting to see what's going on. A little silicone and some gear oil is all it will cost you. But open it up and see if you have broken teeth, with the rear end supported on jack stands turn the driveshaft and listen for noise if you don't see anything obvious.

Ok. Thats one thing this truck hasnt gotten yet is changing the gear oil in the rearend.

Oh well, it will get changed with the new diff assy you are about to install.

I just remember that rant thread about brakes, seals, and the inspector that didn't catch your lack of maintenance. I thought you checked and changed your diff fluid back then.

Nope. I dont know anyone that checks there diff fluid.



Wow. That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

Sorry. I wonder if there is even fluid in it a this point.


Remember this is W. Virginia. I guess they don't teach such things at the Auto Mechanics / Culinary cooking schools there. Perhaps they assume they are sealed and lubed for life? :)

I was pulling them oak tree stumps out after cutting around with a chainsaw to them loose. Then I used 1/2in diameter cable to wrap the stump then other end went on the ball on my hitch. Then in 4wd I stomped gas pedal to get the tree stump out the rest of the way.

I think the horn wouldn't be going off if he'd worn his seatbelt :dunno:
